When I Pray but Can’t Hear God

There are moments in every believer’s life when prayer feels one-sided. You pray. You wait. And heaven seems silent. If you’ve ever felt that way, you are not alone.

Silence Is Not Absence

Psalm 34:15 (NKJV) says: “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.”

Notice what it does not say. It does not say we will always hear Him. It says He hears us. God’s silence does not mean God’s absence. A loving Father can be fully attentive even when He is not speaking out loud. Think about a teacher during a test. The teacher is silent but still present, still watching, still caring. Sometimes God’s quietness is not rejection. It is preparation.

God Often Speaks Through His Word

Many times we expect God to speak through a feeling, a sign, or an audible voice. But 2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV) reminds us: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God…”

If you want to hear God’s voice clearly, open your Bible. His Word is not silent. The more time we spend in Scripture, the more familiar His voice becomes. Jesus said in John 10:27 (NKJV): “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” We recognize His voice as we grow in relationship with Him.

Waiting Deepens Trust

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) says: “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength…”

Waiting is not wasted time. Waiting builds faith. Sometimes God is working in ways we cannot see. Sometimes He is shaping our character more than answering our question. Faith is not proven when answers are immediate. Faith grows when we trust Him in the quiet.

Keep Praying Anyway

Luke 18:1 tells us that Jesus taught His disciples that they “always ought to pray and not lose heart.”

Don’t stop praying just because you don’t feel something. Prayer is not about emotion; it’s about relationship. Even when you can’t hear Him:

He hears you.

He sees you.

He is working.

If you feel like God is silent, don’t walk away; lean in. Keep praying. Keep reading His Word. Keep trusting His character. Because even in the silence, He is still your Father. And He has never stopped listening.

Team Wade is praying for you and loves you and there’s nothing you can do about it ❤️👊
