Vital signs- Tuesday,January 3rd, 2023

Have you ever bought some really nice shoes for a specific sport? I’m not talking about just any shoe. I’m talking about those kicks that look so good and feel so good that they make you think you're unstoppable. Unfortunately those kind of shoes pretty much cost you your entire life savings, but that’s beside the point.

Isn’t it funny that at times we convince ourselves that wearing really nice expensive shoes can make us better athletes? The truth is, that even though wearing the right shoes and gear in a sport is important, what truly makes an athlete great is their heart for the sport. By heart I mean their passion, commitment, and willingness to persevere; to give their best and never give up. In the same way God is not so interested in your appearance or skillset. God is looking for hearts that seek him and are willing to trust Him.

Young David in the Bible is an excellent example of this. David was the youngest of eight brothers and was given the humbling responsibility of tending the sheep. Yet God chose David to be king because he was a man after God’s own heart. We also see how David didn’t need King Saul’s fancy armor to defeat the giant, Goliath. David went out in his ghetto, shepherd’s clothes to confront Goliath. Even though David didn’t have the nicest weapons, he trusted in the Lord and with one smooth stone from his sling, he slayed Goliath.

God doesn’t use those who look the part, he uses those who have the right heart!

Have you been focusing on how you look externally more than your heart  condition? What do you think God sees in you?

At your church are you currently involved in serving in a ministry? Think of ways you can passionately and sincerely honor God with your life, just like David did.

"And David put his hand into his bag and took from it a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead. And the stone sank into his forehead, so that he fell on his face to the ground. Thus David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and he struck the Philistine and killed him; but there was no sword in David’s hand.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭17‬:‭49‬-‭50‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Pray with me- Lord, give me a heart like Yours. I want to see people-including myself-the way that You do. Amen.
