Praying for the Sake of Intimacy
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” — James 4:8 (NKJV)
Many believers view prayer primarily as a way to present requests to God. While God certainly invites us to bring our needs before Him, prayer is much more than asking—it is fellowship. Prayer is the privilege of spending time with our Heavenly Father and growing in intimacy with Him.
Jesus modeled this throughout His earthly ministry. He often withdrew to solitary places to pray, not because He lacked power or wisdom, but because He treasured communion with the Father. Prayer was the lifeline of that relationship.
When we pray simply to be with God, our hearts are changed. We learn to recognize His voice, understand His will, and experience His peace. The goal is not merely to get answers from God, but to know God more deeply.
Today, spend time in prayer without a list of requests. Thank Him, worship Him, and enjoy His presence. Let your prayer be a conversation born out of love and a desire for closeness with Him.
Father, help me not to see prayer as only a time to ask for things, but as an opportunity to know You more intimately. Draw my heart closer to Yours and teach me to delight in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
