The Company You Keep

“Bad company does a man real harm, for if you lie down with dogs you will get up with fleas.” - Charles Spurgeon

While the Bible does not directly discuss the phrase “laying with dogs,” it does caution against associating with people or behaviors that could lead us astray. Bad influences can affect our character, and Scripture warns us to choose companions wisely, seeking relationships that encourage positive growth and honor God’s values.

“Do not be deceived. Evil company corrupts good habits. Awake to righteousness and do not sin, for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.” - I Corinthians 15:33 to 34 NKJV

In I Corinthians Paul was warning the church about spending time with people who were teaching a false resurrection and twisting their minds to a convoluted mind set opposed to the truth. The same stands true when we listen to voices who serve the god of this world.

Be in the world to shine the light of Jesus in its darkness but do not join hands with its evil schemes.
