Maintaining Peace in Times of War
“I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.” — Charles Spurgeon
When the world feels loud with conflict, anger, and uncertainty, peace can seem distant. News cycles repeat stories of war. Social media amplifies fear. Conversations grow tense. Yet Scripture reminds us that peace is not the absence of chaos—it is the presence of God.
In John 14:27, Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” The world’s peace depends on circumstances. Christ’s peace flows from His unchanging character. Kingdoms rise and fall, but God remains steady.
The prophet Isaiah writes in Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” Notice the connection—peace is tied to where we fix our minds. When our thoughts dwell only on turmoil, anxiety grows. When our thoughts rest on God’s promises, peace takes root.
Maintaining peace in troubled times requires intentional choices:
1. Guard your mind. Limit voices that stir fear and increase time in God’s Word.
2. Pray continually. In Philippians 4:6–7, we are told that when we present our requests to God, His peace guards our hearts and minds.
3. Be a peacemaker. Even if nations rage, you can bring gentleness into your home, school, and friendships.
Peace does not mean ignoring suffering. It means trusting that God is still sovereign in the middle of it. The same Lord who calmed the storm is present in today’s storms.
Prayer:
Lord, when the world feels unstable, anchor my heart in You. Guard my thoughts, steady my spirit, and make me an instrument of Your peace. Amen.
