Rest Is Worship
“It is not the quantity of thy work, but the quality of thy spirit, which is the great matter.” — Charles Spurgeon
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
In a world that celebrates busyness, rest can feel unproductive—even lazy. But Scripture paints a different picture. From the very beginning, God modeled rest. After creating the world, He rested—not because He was tired, but to establish a rhythm for us. Rest was woven into creation as something holy.
When we choose to rest, we are doing more than pausing our work. We are declaring trust. We are saying, “God, You are in control. The world keeps turning without my constant effort.” Rest shifts our focus from what we can accomplish to who God is.
Jesus Himself stepped away from crowds to pray and be alone with the Father. If the Son of God needed quiet moments, how much more do we? Rest creates space to hear God’s voice, to remember His faithfulness, and to realign our hearts.
True rest isn’t just sleep or entertainment—it’s surrender. It’s laying down our striving and receiving God’s peace. When we rest with intention, we worship. We acknowledge that our worth is not in our productivity but in being God’s beloved.
Today, give yourself permission to pause. In that stillness, meet with God. Let your rest become an act of worship.
