The Purpose of the Church
“Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” - Matthew 16:18 NLT
What’s the purpose of the church?
When we, as believers, receive Christ as Savior, God the Father adopts us into His family. Instantly, we become part of His global church—His people, His body on earth. The word church itself means "the called-out ones."
We have been called out to worship, both privately and corporately. (Psalm 22:22)
- We have been called out to evangelize. (Acts 1:8)
- We have been called out to make disciples. (Matthew 28:19-20)
- We have been called out to serve. (Titus 3:14)
- We have been called out to intercede. (Matthew 21:13)
We need one another. It’s more fulfilling together, we accomplish more, and we grow more like Jesus through our interactions. When the world sees believers united and fulfilling His mission, they will see Jesus in ways we could never show them alone.
- Trust Christ
- Find a church family
- Be a part
