Take God Seriously

“But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don’t take yourself too seriously—take God seriously.” - ‭‭Micah‬ ‭6‬:‭8‬ ‭MSG‬‬

We often take ourselves too seriously, and God not seriously enough. When we do that, it puts our focus on ourselves instead of on loving God and loving others. Our motives are wrong when we are number one and only focusing on our own agenda. Getting alone with God and being there as simply and honestly as we can shifts our focus to God, which is where it should be in the first place. With our focus on God, our motives become pure.

There’s a chorus in a song that says, “I’ve got to find myself to know myself to be myself to improve myself to get over myself so I can give myself to you.”

How do we do that? By surrendering to a Holy God and allowing Him to reshape our focus.
