Vital signs- Wednesday, January 4th, 2023

There are a lot of ways to learn. You can read a book, take a class, or watch YouTube. We talk about being able to educate ourselves, but that’s not exactly what’s happening. You might take the initiative and find the information you need to learn on your own, but usually, you are learning from information that someone else put together.

Every book has an author, every class has a teacher, and every YouTube channel has a YouTuber.

We are natural apprentices. An apprentice is someone that learns directly from the example and instruction of a master.

Want to be an electrician? Then you will begin as an apprentice to a master electrician. Doctor? Then once you get through medical school, you will do a residency and will learn directly from a series of doctors.

Jesus calls His followers to apprentice under Him, to learn from Him, and also from each other. He just uses a different word for it: discipleship. A disciple is an apprentice. But there’s another side to all of this apprenticeship and learning. Followers of Jesus are told to guide others into apprenticeship. We are apprentices making apprentices. That’s what you have been chosen for, that is what God has appointed you to do.

“But I don’t know enough...”

You know more than you think. And besides, its not a call to perfection, its a call to follow. Its like Paul said, “Follow me as I follow Christ.” In other words, “I’m in the process of learning, and you can join me.”

Live your life intentionally, learning from those that have gone before you, and from Jesus Himself. And don’t think that you can follow Jesus alone, or by keeping all that you experience and learn to yourself. You’re an apprentice who’s purpose is to make more apprentices.

THNK ABOUT IT: Who are you learning from? Are they helping you to follow Jesus?

Who could you be guiding into apprenticeship?

“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭18‬-‭20‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

PRAY with me- Lord, help me to follow Jesus well. I want to learn from you. Place people in my life that I can learn from, and help me see who You are calling me to guide into apprenticeship. Amen.
