The God Who Never Sleeps
“God is a Watchman to whose eyes sleep never comes. You are always safe.” — Charles Spurgeon
“Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” - Psalm 121:4 ESV
Just a few days ago, I spoke with someone who has recently had trouble sleeping. We talked about how sleepless nights make for grumpy days. We wonder what’s wrong, why we are not sleeping, what’s troubling us, and the questions go on and on until, if we’re not careful, anxiety sets in.
How awesome is it to know that we are watched over and protected by a Father who is always alert and awake? He watches over not only His chosen people but also those who are grafted in. The older I get, the more I’m learning that when sleepless nights come, we shouldn’t fight them. Instead, we can lean into them by leaning into God’s word and having great conversation with Him, knowing He’s already awake and always willing to listen and speak with us.
There’s not only peace that comes with that but great safety as well.
I would almost bet that if we stop seeking answers for why we can’t sleep and start seeking the Father, sleep, rest, and peace would come.
It’s worth a shot!
