Christmas is about the power and majesty of a coming king. Jesus is the rightful one to claim the throne and usher in a new kingdom from every tribe, tongue, and nation. But Christmas isn’t just about God’s power; it’s also about humility, service, and love. Jesus gave up His position of glory and the worship of angels in heaven. He humbled Himself to be born a man so that He could be a servant of mankind. Jesus was born of us so that he could die for us. He emptied himself of the riches and status that heaven offered and traded in his divine strength for human weakness. The salvation of sinners came at a great cost. Christmas was never something we deserved. It has always been a staggering display of God’s love for us.
Now “we” get the privilege to display the love of the Father to a dark, hurting, searching world. But we must humble ourselves to do so. It’s a commandment, not optional.
”who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.“
Philippians 2:6-7 NKJV
