Vital Signs: Saturday, November 9, 2024

“Some wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless. Hungry and thirsty, they nearly died. ‘Lord, help!’ they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress. He led them straight to safety, to a city where they could live. Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” - ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭107‬:‭4‬-‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

CRYING OR CRYING FOR HELP

When we make mistakes or fall into serious sin, we often weep and cry because our image is damaged, or we have lost so much. This crying stops when the guilt wears off. Crying for help, however, is different. Crying for help is the beginning of our transformation. God responds when we come to the end of ourselves and humbly ask for help as we struggle in the desperation we have created. The psalmist reminds us that when our ancestors finally cried out to God for help, he saved them and restored them.
