Vital signs- Saturday June 26th, 2021

“Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, ‘One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.’”

(Mark 10:21)

Now, why did Jesus make this request to this young man? Why did Jesus say to him, “Sell everything you have and give it to the poor”? Most likely He’s not said that to you. Why did He say that to this young man? This young man had an idol in his heart—a false god. And what was this idol? This idol was his wealth—his gold.

Whatever a man trusts is his god. Anything you love more, serve more, trust more, fear more than Almighty God is an idol. Do you see that? This man had an idol. No man can serve two masters, but he must serve one. (See Matthew 6:24.) And what this man needed to do in order to have eternal life was to repent. Repent of what? Idolatry!

• Jesus may not tell you to sell everything, but He wants to remove every idol from your life. What thing might Jesus tell you to get rid of completely to follow Him?

• Why is it important not only to remove idols from our lives but also to repent of them?

Take practical steps to completely remove any idols from your life.
