Why getting everything I want isn't what I want
Are you like me? Some days I want to get what I want, and I want it now!
It is easy at times to think the blessing is getting what I want when I want it. I mean, who wouldn't love that?
God has a different opinion. It is in his presence that we find righteousness and blessing. Earthly material goods can be fun, and God can and does bless us with them, but we find true blessing in His presence. When God blesses us with material goods, the item itself is only a tiny part of the blessing. The true blessing is that the Lord God Almighty cares about you and me so much that He knows our thoughts, needs, and desires and then draws close to us and interacts with our lives.
The fact that the maker of Heaven and earth knows us, shares His heart with us, and interacts with us at such a personal level is incredible!!! If we learn this, focus on this, rather than the item or situation we or others are blessed with, we will genuinely and continually live in blessing. Knowing God's heart and growing in His love for us is the ultimate blessing. In His presence is the fullness of joy. When our delight is in Him, the desires of our hearts are fulfilled.
Are there things in your life that you "want" that are distractions from God and His best for you? Are there any desires in your heart that you've suppressed, or have you stopped dreaming?
Father God, thank you for your presence and your love. Thank you that you know me far better than I know myself and desire more for me that I can comprehend. I confess that I have wanted "stuff" to distract me or fill voids in my life/heart. I repent of that now, and I receive your forgiveness and cleansing. Father, would you stir up those dreams and desires in my heart that are from you. Help me to know you and walk in true blessing and fulfillment. Help me trust you and truly believe I will see your goodness in the land of the living.
