Vital signs- Friday, January 6th, 2023

I’m really good at noting all the ways that I am not good enough, and the more I think about it, the more insecure I become, which makes me feel even more awkward than I already am, which makes me even more aware of my shortcomings, which...

You get it.

But you know something, I do have talents. Some of them are obvious, and some are subtle. Some are on display, and some are deep in my interior. My talents are there; God put them there.

And He did the same for you.

You are a gifted person! You might look at others in your life, or the curated feeds of the people you ‘follow,’ and think that your talents aren’t enough, but they are.

God gifted them to be them, and He gifted you to be you. Dr. Seuss said it best,

“Today you are you,

That is truer than true.

There is no one alive

Who is youer than you.”

The point is this: you are talented. God made you, and He gave you the talents that would be necessary for you to live the life He gave you. So, don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Because after all, they would be just as lousy at being you, as you would be at being them.

Stop measuring yourself by the impossible standard of comparison. Instead, look to Jesus who, though perfect, accepts flawed people like us. He will give you what you need to live the life that He has given you.

So- How has God made you unique?

How can you grow in the gifts/talents God has given you? What practical thing can you do today?

“seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.”

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭7‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

PRAY with me- Lord, thank you for making me, me. Help me to live the life You have given me in a way that shows others Your goodness.
