And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.
(1 Peter 3:13-15)
Often, we’re told to keep the faith. But, in the strictest sense, we should not only keep it but also give it away. And in my estimation, if we have no desire to give it away, we ought to give it up, because what we have is not the real thing. Any man who has been born of the Spirit of God has an innate desire to share his faith with others. Two things that must be true of us before we’re ready to share with anybody.
First of all, we must be real. Our world is not looking for a new definition of the Gospel, but a new demonstration of the Gospel, primarily. Be real!
And then, be ready! Be ready! When we start being real, people are going to start asking questions about us. When they see something about us that cannot be explained, they’re going to ask why we believe as we believe and why we act as we act.
• What are some ways we might seek to grow in being real and being ready in order to share our faith with others?
Being real and being ready to share our faith requires proactivity. Write down the ways God is calling you to live proactively for Him and ask Him to help you walk in obedience.
