The Sole Desire of the Soul

“As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.” - Psalms‬ ‭42‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When we are desperately hunger, our only desire is food; when we are desperately thirsty, our only desire is water. In the same way, the soul is hungry and thirsty for something far beyond food or water. Like the roots of a mighty oak that dive deeper and deeper in their search for water, so our soul longs for a deeper connection to God. Like a deer longs for streams of water, our souls long for God. This longing is satisfied only by mining the riches of God‘s word and meditating on them, and praying, and loving, and serving, and connecting with others, and living according to God's standards.: “ bedience.”

Today may we give our souls what it needs and what it longs for.
