Saying Goodbye to Yesterday
“...forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,” — Philippians 3:13 (NKJV)
Yesterday can hold victories, regrets, disappointments, and unanswered questions. It is natural to replay conversations, missed opportunities, or painful moments. Yet Scripture encourages us not to live anchored to the past but to move toward what God has for us today.
Paul the Apostle wrote these words while facing hardships and uncertainty. He did not suggest pretending the past never happened. Instead, he chose not to let it define his future. God’s mercy is not limited to what happened yesterday; His grace meets us each new day.
Saying goodbye to yesterday may mean:
- Releasing guilt after seeking God’s forgiveness.
- Letting go of bitterness toward someone who hurt you.
- Refusing to let past successes become your only source of confidence.
- Trusting that God can work through today’s circumstances for His purposes.
The Lord invites you to carry forward wisdom from the past without carrying its unnecessary weight. What cannot be changed can be surrendered to Him, and what lies ahead can be faced with hope. - (Inspired by the song “So Long” by Peter Burton)
What is one thing from yesterday that you need to place in God’s hands so you can walk faithfully into today?
Heavenly Father, thank You for being with me through yesterday and for the gift of a new day. Help me release regrets, hurts, and fears that keep me from following You. Give me the courage to trust Your plans and the strength to move forward in faith. Guide my steps and remind me that Your mercies are new every morning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
