“Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles: Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot;”
Luke 6:12-15 NKJV
One of the lesser known disciples was Simon the Zealot, who was noted to be a member of the Zealots, a fanatic Jewish group who would kill in loyalty to Israel. After following Jesus, Simon’s fervor was transformed into an overwhelming passion for Jesus.
In what areas of your life have your passion, fervor, and pursuit of the Lord faded? When our focus shifts to ourselves, it is easy to forget that we were redeemed for a high cost. Our lives are no longer our own and should be motivated by a passion for our Savior who redeemed us.
Father God, by Your Spirit empower me to experience a hunger and thirst for You and Your Word. Surround me with people who are zealous for You. Lord, ignite my passion for prayer, worship, and an intimate walk with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
“not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;”
Romans 12:11 NKJV
