Abide in Me
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” — John 15:4 (NKJV)
Many believers wrestle with this question: “If salvation is real, why does fruit sometimes seem absent or scarce?”
Jesus teaches that fruit is not produced by striving harder but by abiding deeper. Fruit grows naturally from a healthy connection to the vine. Sometimes a lack of visible fruit points to neglect in our fellowship with Christ rather than proof that we never belonged to Him.
It’s also worth remembering that growth can be slower than we expect. A tree bears fruit based on its maturity and spiritual health. God may be doing unseen work—deepening roots, exposing sin, teaching dependence, or pruning areas of your life that hinder future fruitfulness.
Ask yourself:
- Am I regularly spending time with Christ in His Word and prayer?
- Am I resisting something the Holy Spirit is convicting me about?
- Am I looking for dramatic fruit while overlooking small signs of growth?
Salvation rests on Christ’s finished work, not on the amount of fruit you can point to. Yet genuine faith does produce change over time. If you’re concerned about your fruitlessness, that concern itself may be evidence that God’s Spirit is still at work in you, drawing you closer to Christ—or it might just be the Spirit drawing you to a first-time, authentic salvation.
This is something we cannot afford to get wrong:
1. Trust Christ as your Savior.
2. Stay in prayer and the Word.
3. The fruit of the Spirit will show.
Again, not by working harder but by abiding!
Lord Jesus, save me and help me abide in You. Show me where I have drifted and strengthen my walk with You. Produce in me the fruit that honors You—not by my effort alone, but by Your life working through me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
