The first key that will keep you out of the grasp of the enemy is to be ruled by the Word. The Word of God—the Bible—is our final authority. Make the Word of God your rule and your authority, and live in obedience to all it says.
As God followers we must know that, if you're not under the authority of the Word, then you're out from under any spiritual covering or safety at all. The Word is our final authority, our starting authority, and every authority in between.
It doesn't matter how elementary your life situation may be; always run to the Word and prayer for answers.
Run to what "Thus says the Lord," because His instruction is steadfast. It will never fail you! And as our final authority, the Word will keep you walking on a straight path. It will guard you from all manner of temptation.
When I do premarital counseling, I always teach future brides and grooms to keep the Word in the middle of your marriage relationship. If you keep God in the center of your life and your everyday living, then every obstacle, anything that comes up, goes through the filter of God’s Word first. If God is in the middle of your relationship, you automatically start changing the way you think and act to align with the Bible.
This key is short, but foundational to everything:
Keep the Word in the middle of your life, and in the center of everything that you do. Let every aspect of your life be based upon and filtered through the reality of this Word. It is God's Word that converts your soul and keeps you from sinning against the Lord.
”The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.“
