Where Does Your Confidence Come From?
“Confidence in God is a most effective security against sin.” — Charles Spurgeon
“For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.” - Proverbs 3:26
How do you define confidence? There are two types: self-confidence and God-confidence — also known as biblical self-confidence.
Self-confidence is having faith in oneself to do what seems right in one’s own eyes, relying on personal power and walking in one’s own way. But self-confidence has limited potential and often leads to trouble.
Confidence in God, however, is when your faith is rooted and grounded in who you are in Jesus Christ. It’s about trusting in who God is and in the finished work of Christ on the cross. God-confidence has unlimited possibility.
The world tells you to believe in yourself, to trust in your own strength and ability to reach your goals and dreams. But is your confidence in yourself, or is it in God?
Self-confidence promoted by the world is driven by selfish ambition and personal desires. But the confidence of a believer finds its aim in a right relationship with God.
The world places its confidence in money, appearance, status, and other people — but all of these fade or fail. When your focus is on God, your confidence rests securely in Him.
There is supernatural power in the blood of Jesus that gives us a God-confidence this world cannot understand.
