Desperate Measures
“One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out, “My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves.” - 2 Kings 4:1 -3
So many things about this story moves me.
1: God has never left us on our own to figure out how to change. He's given us friends. He's given us His spirit and he's given us his word.
2: Next, we see her cry of distress. She was hurting so much that she had no problem admitting she had a problem. She was vulnerable, desperate not blaming others just looking for answers.
3: She taught us that there must come a time in everyone's life when the longing to live the abundant life out ways the pain of our current circumstances. We must stop blaming whoever and start asking God to do what we obviously cannot do for ourselves.
For 30 years of my life, I allowed the pain others had caused to control me to the point of damaging everyone around me. Yet out of pride and hurt and what others might think I never asked for help, much less shared the overpowering pain that consumed my life.(Devastation)
Refuse to let my story become your story follow the example of the widow.
