Stinking Thinking
“Take every thought captive…” — 2 Corinthians 10:5
Sometimes the biggest battles aren’t around us; they’re inside us. “Stinking thinking” shows up as lies like I’m not good enough, nothing will change, or God isn’t really helping me. Left unchecked, those thoughts shape our attitude, drain our hope, and pull us away from truth.
Scripture reminds us that we don’t have to accept every thought that enters our mind. We can pause, test it, and replace it. When a negative thought appears, ask: Is this true? Does this line up with what God says? If not, trade it for truth. Fear becomes “God is with me.” Defeat becomes “God is still working.” Shame becomes “I am loved and forgiven.”
Changing our thinking doesn’t happen instantly, but every time we replace a lie with truth, the air clears. The smell of “stinking thinking” fades, and peace takes its place.
God, help me notice thoughts that pull me away from Your truth. Give me wisdom to replace lies with what You say about me. Renew my mind and help me think in ways that bring life and hope. Amen.
