Let Joy Set the Temperature
“Our crusty tempers and sour faces will never be evangelists.” — Charles Spurgeon
“Many are asking, ‘Who can show us any good?’ Let the light of your face shine on us, Lord.” - Psalm 4:6
This one hits me hard when just yesterday I was sharing with a friend how we so often spend so much emotional energy by allowing the slightest things to set us off. I arose from that very conversation only to begin the day’s journey by allowing the very thing we said we shouldn’t to take place.
Why, I ask? Why do we allow circumstances and people to set our thermostat, causing us to lose our platform to be Jesus in skin?
When we think about our countenance, we cannot forget how closely it is related to the joy we receive from God. Our joy certainly shines through our expressions, making our countenance a reflection of God’s goodness.
This not only takes us to a new level in our spiritual journey with those around us, but we also cultivate a heart full of joy that radiates from our face. As we embrace God’s goodness, our expressions inspire the world.
Let’s not allow the circumstances around us to set the temperature for our influence.
May the world not just hear our testimony of the goodness of God, but may they see it in our reflection.
