The Father's DNA
“If you wish to know God, you must know his Word. If you wish to perceive his power, you must see how he works by his Word." - Charles Spurgeon
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” - Romans 10:17 NKJV
One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen in my life has been to watch the two children my brother and sister-in-law adopted as babies continue to look more like their mom and dad and act more like them. Yes, they have their own personalities and their own traits, but the longer they’ve lived around their adopted parents the more they’ve taken on their appearance and their way of life.
It’s the same in our relationship with the Lord. The closer we get to the Lord, the more we walk like Him and talk like Him. When we press into the word of God, we know Him more. We know how He responds in different situations, and in that we learn ways to pattern our own lives. We begin to look more like Jesus in everything we do. It seems as though we’ve lived all along with the DNA of the Creator in us—only to discover by receiving the free gift of salvation that it’s true. We do have the Father’s DNA.
I so long to live with a better understanding of who I really am and whose I really am, but these truths only come when we learn to hear the voice of the Father by the reading of His Word and prayer.
Try it, you’ll never regret it!
