“Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives. On the way, Jesus told them, “Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there.” Peter declared, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you.” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” “No!” Peter insisted. “Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the other disciples vowed the same.”
Matthew 26:30-35 NLT
When Jesus predicts Peter’s denial of Him, Peter is self-confident and vehemently disregards the prediction. However, Jesus’ prediction comes to pass, and Peter is very sorrowful and repentant.
What great failure has discouraged you from following Jesus wholeheartedly? God knows our flaws and weaknesses. He is not surprised or shocked when we fail Him. His forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration is readily available when we turn away from our sin and seek Him.
Father God, I thank You that Your grace is greater than all my sin. Lord, protect the intimacy and integrity of our relationship so that I remain close to You. When I stumble, draw me back to You swiftly and lovingly. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
“The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”
Jeremiah 31:3 NKJV
