The Power of Pardon
"No peril of plague, battle, shipwreck, or poison, can equal the hazard of an unpardoned soul." — Charles Spurgeon
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 NKJV
Just the thought of a gift given yet not received is mind-boggling, isn’t it? But to reject a gift that results in eternal separation from holy God for eternity is devastating.
On another note, to be pardoned yet refuse to pardon others makes no sense either. When we talk about pardon, we are referring to the act of forgiveness, an essential element in our spiritual journey. The Bible teaches us about God’s desire to offer us forgiveness, showcasing His love and grace. Through His example, we are reminded that as we seek pardon from God for our transgressions, we too ought to extend that grace to those around us. Pardon is more than simply saying we forgive someone; it is about truly letting go of the hurt and pain caused by their actions. In accepting the pardon God offers us, we free ourselves from the burden of guilt and resentment, allowing us to move forward in faith, hope, and love. This reciprocal nature of pardon strengthens our relationships with God and with each other as we build a community based on understanding, compassion, and mercy.
As believers, we must stop selfishly fighting for revenge with those who have hurt us and start daring to pardon them the same way the Father has pardoned us.
To pardon equals freedom.
To not pardon equals imprisonment.
