God is my Shepherd

When we need counsel and guidance, where do we go first? Just like sheep – such simple animals! – look towards their wise and experienced shepherd, we can look towards the One who calls Himself our Shepherd: Jesus. Like a shepherd knows where He is guiding His sheep, we might not always comprehend the paths in front of us, but we can have peace and joy when we look towards God to show us the way.

Thank You, Jesus; I am not left alone in this world to defend myself and figure it out. You have given Yourself as my guide and protector to lead me to the right places at the right times. You attend to my needs like a shepherd looks after his sheep. You attended to my ultimate need for a sacrifice and died to bring me into your flock. You’ve followed after me when I have strayed so foolishly. I choose today to believe You are my shepherd: that even in the darkest valley, You are there, when I have plenty, You are there, when I am lost, You pursue me. I am sorry for the times I believed that You left my side and left me defenceless. Please help me recognize and know Your voice as my shepherd so I can follow Your guiding hand more closely. Thank You for giving up Your life for Your sheep: now I choose to follow You all the days of my life. Amen.
